This can be viewed at any time during the formal comment period and allows for online comments and questions that will be answered by MaineDOT staff. The formal comment period will last from July 15, 2026, through July 31, 2026.

An informational meeting, which will take place during a Public Hearing, to inform the public of the Atlantic Salmon Federation's intent to submit an application to Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for a permit under the Maine Waterway Development and Conservation Act (codified under Title 38, Chapter 5, §§ 630-638) for the proposed removal of the Mayo Mill Dam on the Piscataquis River in the Town of Dover-Foxcroft, Piscataquis County, Maine and to provide information about the anticipated environmental impacts and the opportunity to submit comments to the DEP during the application processing period, will be held on July 20, 2026.

The Mayo Mill Dam Removal Project will remove the existing dam and powerhouse structures and any existing legacy structures upstream of the concrete dam spillway as well as the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the public boat launch. The riverbed and the upstream impoundment area will revert to a free-flowing condition.

The Mayo Mill Dam is located in north central Maine on the Piscataquis River. The Piscataquis River (at the Project Site) is located in Piscataquis County and is a tributary of the Penobscot River, which flows directly into the Gulf of Maine and Atlantic Ocean. The Project Site is in the USGS grid named Dover-Foxcroft at 45°11'1.34"N 69°13'47.86"W (45.183701, -69.230003).

The project will be discussed at a Town Public Hearing starting at 6:30 pm July 20, 2026 in the meeting room at 48 Morton Ave. Ste A, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
